Stunning Tyvek Dress from Anna Loosli

Anna Loosli created a stunning white Tyvek dress for The School of the Art Institute of Chicago's 2016 fashion show. In her own words, Loosli describes her design and material selection:

As part of our project for the 2016 fashion show at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago for the schools, 150th year anniversary, I had to create a design using non-conventional materials. It was especially important in my choice of materials since this year’s fashion show was held at the Garfield Conservatory in Chicago where there was heat, water and humidity. I had to use a fabric that would not have a reaction to or be affected by any of these factors. It also needed to have the texture, feel and color I was looking for to create my design. Researching many materials, I came across Tyvek 1443R from Material Concepts where the description of Tyvek - lightweight, water resistant, breathable, tear resistant, flexible and easy to sew - was perfect for what I required. It also came in white which is the color I was looking for to use on my garment.

The peony flower was the inspiration for my garment. The peony is called the "King of the Flowers" as it is considered a symbol of beauty in many countries. It is also the preferred flower of many wedding ceremonies. I also found that the use of this flower with its large petals and different shapes can add drama and excitement to my design. The design and use of the hood or cage was to give my garment a feel of a garden setting. In the construction of my garment, the skirt was made almost completely from Tyvek 1443R as well as the corset and flowers.

Tyvek Soft Structure Style 1443R was an excellent choice of material by Loosli as its fabric-like qualities show very well and its whiteness is striking in her design, as the photos clearly illustrate. And it works very well for the intricacies of the flowers in the dress too. Loosli's dress design shows how fashion designers continue to innovate with how Tyvek is used in their creative works. Tyvek Wedding Dress - Bella the Bride - Made From Re-Purposed Tyvek

Sterilization packaging manufacturer Beacon Converters, Inc. commissioned Bella The Bride's wedding gown to encourage the healthcare industry to look at discarded medical packaging waste as a resource and not garbage. Created by artist and environmental educator Nancy Judd, Bella’s gown is made from re-purposed Tyvek and the latest addition to the Recycle Runway Collection, a traveling exhibit of Eco Couture Fashion made out of trash.

The gown demonstrates the importance of recycling discarded waste, in this case healthcare packaging, which otherwise would have been sent to a landfill. Bella’s pure white gown is pieced and sewn out of discarded medical grade Tyvek styles. Tyvek was selected because of its ability to be recycled or recovered for re-purposing - it is a clean, flexible, sterilizable material with specific medical grades widely used in medical device packaging. Beacon took Bella on tour and invited healthcare professionals and other members of the industry to participate in the creation of the dress by crafting one or more handmade flowers out of discarded medical grade Tyvek.

New Tyvek Fashions for 2015 from Polish Designer Agnieszka Sukiennik

Agnieszka Sukiennik, a Warsaw, Poland based independent visual artist, illustrator and fashion designer, announces her spring/summer 2015 fashion design using Tyvek material. Her brand is ANIESS. The new collections are called MON POLLEN and MON BLUE. This Tyvek Innovative Uses Blog has featured Ms. Sukiennik's work previously and she does some amazing things with Tyvek in her fashion designs.

Sukiennik comments on her latest fashion designs:

My inspirations came from nature, bloom, little meadow flowers, waterdrops, marks of rain. Collections are very light, feminine and tenuous.To create these projects, I started with photography, I made a lots of pictures, on the countryside, just next to my summer house, then I pained watercolor sketches to create the best composition, which finally was placed, repainted on Tyvek. In my collections the main medium is hand painted Tyvek linked with knitwear, polyurethane foam and natural leather. Each piece of ANIESS clothing is a singular work of art - each garment is a one and only piece, totally unique.

Tyvek Fashion Collection Color Impression by Agnieszka Sukiennik

Designer Agnieszka Sukiennik is featured again with new Tyvek® creations in her COLOR IMPRESSION collection. Like her previous creations, COLOR IMPRESSION features chic, modern shirts. Sukiennik told us that originality and impressionism were her inspirations for COLOR IMPRESSION because with this collection she "tried to catch this impression which is elusive, impression of vibrant colors."

Sukiennik said that COLOR IMPRESSION is her way of combating the lack of originality in clothing. She said:

I used to be against the trends, so when everything started to be printed and duplicated with thousands of copies, I wanted an original way to express myself in the fashion business so I created the hand painted collection COLOR IMPRESSION. I started with millions of sketches, design of female sweatshirts and skirts, and then I made abstract and colorful paintings on Tyvek®. The result is that each garment is original and the one and only, like all woman around us.

Sukiennik's Tyvek® fascination began years ago when she "fell in love with Tyvek® 1443R and then created a female dress collection called ILLUSTRATIONS IN MOTION with personal, printed illustrations."

Wearable Art Runway Competition Features Tyvek Creations

Impact Artists Gallery's "Evolution – Wear Art Meets Fashion" Wearable Art Runway Competition was a major Buffalo NY fashion event in April 2014. For this show, many fashion designers chose Tyvek as the main material for their dresses and accessories, including intricate necklaces. Tyvek shared the catwalk with beautiful models.

Over 50 unique, wearable art fashions created by local and national artists were displayed at the event, many of which featured Tyvek. Maria Kowalski, President of Impart Artists Gallery, told us that "all of the submissions for this show were made from re-purposed or hand-crafted materials. The event brought in over 100 artists and volunteers, along with approximately 300 attendees." The piece created by Patti and Mary, along with a dress and some jewelry created by Susan Marie Borden are now being displayed at the DuPont™™ corporate offices in Wilmington, DE.

Impact Artists Gallery is a non-profit art gallery located in the Tri-Main Building in Buffalo, New York and is the only Western New York gallery that is exclusively managed and operated by women.  Kowalski told us that "the Impact Artists Gallery has been supporting artists in the Western New York community and beyond for over 21 years. With 8 exhibits and several fundraisers annually, Impact displays works from multi-media artists from Buffalo to Hawaii. Tyvek Garments and Tyvek Belt Bag from Polish Artist Agnieszka Sukiennik

Agnieszka Sukiennik is an artist living and working in Warsaw, Poland, using Tyvek for her illustration and fashion design work. We are happy to feature her work as she is certainly using Tyvek in an innovative fashion. Her work includes Tyvek belt bags and various Tyvek garments, including Tyvek dresses, Tyvek tops, and pants with Tyvek accents in colorful, striking designs.

Agnieszka provides this description of her work with Tyvek:

I am an artist who uses Tyvek as a medium to create illustrations. I focus on Tyvek1443R. In my opinion, it's the best kind of product to wear, because it's breathable and lightweight. Tyvek is an amazing, paper-like fabric which easily accepts acrylic paint, permanent pens or print. I like to combine Tyvek with other fabrics like natural leather or knitwear.

My first collection ILLUSTRATIONS IN MOTION includes 11 Tyvek garment creations with various illustrations. In 2012, in cooperation with Coiffure Artist Jaga Hupalo, I held a fashion performance that took place on Warsaw’s streets. It created a brand new artistic experience. The main inspiration was an idea to take art out of the gallery space (or usual catwalk scenery) on to the streets. During this event a blend of Art, Fashion and Modern Design, all underlined by subtle understatement, confronted bystanders face to face.

My other project is a Tyvek belt bag with handmade acrylic painting. The unique picture of a colorful and charming Robin in a magic garden was inspired by the book "The Secret Garden", written by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The external surface of the belt bag is covered with illustrations and the internal surface is covered with handmade typography of "The Secret Garden" quotations.

The whole process of creation starts with a lot of sketches. I drew the illustration, designed the belt bag, choose the right fabric and met my dressmaker. In this project I decided to combine
